The product
Artium Centar is a Psychological Counselling Centar founded by a psychologist that specializes in Integrative Art Psychotherapy.
The problem
The main challenge was to incorporate art elements in the design to stay true to the psychotherapy modality, capture Julija's spirit, and to still remain professional.
The goal
Design a responsive website, with a modern and minimalistic aesthetic, that clearly and visually communicates the services, a website that will be perceived as reliable, that will evoke trust, but is fun and engaging, and will encourage the user to book a session.
The Design Process
Mobile first approach
Recognizing the prevalence of mobile device usage in today's digital landscape, especially when seeking mental health resources, it was imperative to ensure that the website delivers a seamless and engaging experience on smaller screens. By starting with the mobile design, I focused on streamlining content, optimizing navigation, and emphasizing a clean and intuitive user interface.
One of the challenges was to clearly communicate the services. The first usability study showed that people thought that Julija provided only integrative art psychotherapy services, and that would limit her potential clients to only those seeking that kind of therapy. The reality was that the majority of her clients were practicing regular psychotherapy. So that was the main focus, to make a clear distinction between the services she is providing and clarifying which approach sooths someone best.
In the usability study, participants had difficulty in determining their location within the portal after logging in. To address this, I implemented a concise welcoming text in the upper left corner, displaying their name. Additionally, I enhanced the visibility by modifying the color of the active tab to a darker shade, providing clear visual cues to help users confidently identify their current position within the portal.
To tackle the issue of excessive pages, I embraced a one-page website approach, consolidating the key information on the homepage. Users can now seamlessly scroll down to explore all the desired details, while the fixed menu at the top enables effortless navigation between different sections.
In response to feedback from the usability study, where participants thought the design was outdated and unappealing, I embarked on a redesign journey. Adopting a modern outlook, I infused vibrant tones, incorporated captivating shapes, and integrated visually engaging symbols to breathe new life into the design and captivate users with a fresh and enticing experience.

What I've learned
Throughout my journey, I realized that the design process is an ongoing endeavor with endless possibilities for refinement and improvement, continually iterating to enhance various aspects. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that resource limitations may influence the extent to which these iterations can be pursued. Moreover, I gained a deeper appreciation for the invaluable role of user research and usability testing, as they serve as a compasses, guiding the design journey from start to finish.
Next steps
I am very satisfied with the cooperation with Marija, during which she showed a high level of professionalism, exceptional commitment to work, thinking about even the smallest detail, endless patience for all doubts, willingness to answer countless questions, ability to find a creative solution for every dilemma and to provide encouragement when need, and all this while respecting all deadlines, plans and agreements.
